Achievements of Engineers FC in GTA West Soccer Tournament

Back in August, when the five teams – Tiger Wing, Hunter, Mississauga United, KWC and Engineers FC – made it into the final competition of this years’ GTA West Soccer Tournament, Engineer FC’s supporters chose to hold its breath on the odds of their team winning the championship.

On September 10th, after four consecutive and high intensity matches, Engineer FC were dealt a bit of a reality check. Having struggled to create many opportunities, our team has to accept the fact that we missed the championship. In the first match against Tiger Wing, Denis broke the deadlock after receiving pass from Alex, Lionel’s penalty equalized the score in the second half. In the last match against KWC, Hou received a wonderful passing from Roger in a counterstrike and scored for team. Meanwhile, Engineers FC teamed up with Milton Hawks to play in 40+ Tournament, and won group #1.

“Celebrate it by all means,” said the captain Liao Haixue, “Please remember, it means a lot even without the trophy.”

However, as important as the trophy is and as sweet as the process is, that four matches weren't even Engineer FC's biggest moment in the tournament. The moment came on when several new players joined the team for the first time and fought with us side by side, showing courage, sacrifice and team spirit. The moment came on when this group of old boys, some of them are older than 35, 40 or even 50, showed the fearless spirit competing with group of twenties.

It shows what's possible in football.

Engineer FC will stick our never-say-never spirit in all matches in the future. Like the lyrics in this song:

Walk on through the wind

Walk on through the rain

Though your dreams be tossed and blown

Walk on, walk on

With hope in your heart

And you will never walk alone

You will never walk alone

Though the tournament is over, we will still have two matches of this year’s soccer league at 1065 McCraneySt E, Oakville, L6H 1H9, 4 – 6 pm on Sept. 17 and Sept. 24. You are welcome to join. If you plan to come, please text 647 998 8718 or email to info@csea.ca in advance.

Engineers FC is recruiting more players to play in both Open and 40+ groups in 2023. If you or your engineers Friends want to show your soccer talent and network with other engineers, feel free to contact us, we look forward to your participation.
