On June 7, 2025, the Canadian Structural Engineers Association (CSEA) held its annual Summer Picnic at the beautiful Lakefront Promenade Park in Mississauga. The event brought together nearly 100 members, their families, and industry professionals for a day filled with networking, learning, and camaraderie.
Under clear skies and warm sunshine, attendees enjoyed a thoughtfully organized program that featured insightful discussions, engaging competitions, and team-building activities, all set against the beautiful lakeshore backdrop.

Opening Remarks & Welcome
The event commenced with a warm welcome from CSEA President Mr. Liao, who emphasized the importance of community and collaboration within the structural engineering profession. The program was expertly facilitated by Joyce Zhang and Raymond Su, whose dynamic hosting ensured a seamless and engaging experience for all.

Public Speaking Contest: Influence
A key feature of this year’s picnic was the public speaking contest, moderated by Helen Deng and Austin Tian, where participants from both student and professional groups delivered compelling speeches on the theme of Influence. The impressive lineup of speakers included:

⦁ Oliver Xiao – Influence
⦁ Brian Xiang – Influence in Our Everyday Lives
⦁ Jody Liao – The Power of Influence through Unity

⦁ Ping Ge – Lessons Learned from the Book "The Psychology of Influence"

After thoughtful deliberation by the judging panel, Ping Ge was announced as the champion, recognized for her articulate delivery and profound insights. The referees provided valuable feedback, enriching the experience for both speakers and attendees.

Team-Building Activities & Networking
Following the speaking contest, participants engaged in collaborative team games, including an energetic Balloon Relay Race and a spirited Tug of War. These activities reinforced the importance of teamwork while fostering new connections.

The event concluded with a delicious outdoor meal, allowing attendees to relax, network, and reflect on the day’s experiences.
